I listened to Senator Slotkin’s response to Trump’s diarrhea of lies before Congress last night. Fortunately, it was only a bit over ten minutes long. She spent the first nine minutes on the three shared beliefs all Americans hold: the middle class is the engine, strong national defense is primary, and democracy is wonderful, American exceptionalism. She touched on the need to bring prices down, make more things in America through union jobs, provide certainty and stability to investors, and reform our tax system.
Her recommendations for what we, that’s you and me, should do? Don’t tune out. Hold public officials accountable. And, organize – pick one issue and get involved.
This is amazing!!
Here we are, a country with arguably the highest levels of income and wealth inequality in our history. Here we are with a military that consumes more resources by far than any other country in more places around the world for very dubious objectives, and those are what the Democratic party thinks are policy objectives. Here we are, a country that spends nearly twice as much per person on healthcare as other developed countries to achieve third-world health outcomes. Here we are, a country with endemic housing shortages and cost burdens. Forty years ago, a typical house cost three times the average family’s income. Today, it is over eight times. Here we are, an economy with a falling new business birth rate for the last twenty years because virtually every business sector is monopolized. Here we are, facing impending environmental mayhem, and fossil fuel consumption is at an all-time high. Here we are, a country leading all other developed countries in our incarceration rate.
I could go on….. how is it that the Democratic Party can’t come up with at least a couple of real policy issues to fight for? Perhpas, it is because the Democratic Party is also in thrall to the billionaire class??
